I guess everybody will have a different definition of what extraordinary is, but I satyed at a B&B on the north coast of the Dingle Peninsula that was very nice, had a spectacular view, right at the base of the Connor Pass Road. It's called "The Shores" and you can find it on the Town and Country website. http://www.commerce.ie/towns_and_country/ Just look in County Kerry and then Castlegregory Dingle peninsula. BTW, The owners name is also Annette. She's very nice and the breakfast menu has a few nice options from the usual Irish Breakfast or Ulster Fry.

By the way, the Town and Country website is a pretty good option for finding places around the country, and the book that they have has even more choices.

Good luck!

Bill

I can't resist suggesting The Knockferry
Lodge on Lough Corrib in County Galway.
We had the most lovely stay there several years ago. The accomodations
are very comfortable and not outrageously priced. The location and views were fabulous.
Check it out
www.knockferrylodge.com

Annette,
I'd concur with Sue's reference to Knockferry Lodge, nicely situated along the shores of Lough Corrib, but also acting as a good base for excursions to Galway City. If memory serves, I was last there in the mid-90s, but I've since heard there are new folks in charge, and I can't speak to any possible changes.
Not far from Knockferry is the even more noteworthy Fermoyle Lodge ( a Google search will lead you). Also located in County Galway, but in a very remote part of that county, the lodge is just lovely, offering most comfortable accommodation, along with first-rate service and cuisine (enjoy stunning views of the Connemara from Fermoyle';s dining room). Fermoyle is a Victorian sporting lodge - small, personalized, only four rooms - and it makes a great base for trips to the Aran Islands, as the ferry is a short drive away.
Best of luck.
