Farmhouse B&B west/SW?

Traveling with the wife and kids to Ireland at the end of October. We're looking for some reccomendations on Farmhouse B&Bs, in the west and south west. A big plus would be "family room" experiences.

How about the Cobh area?

I am topping this for you so someone can answer. A few other web sites for Ireland might help www.irelandexpert.com and www.irelandyes.com

Hi,
Don't know if you're interested in West Cork, but there's a wonderful B+B called Fortview House in Goleen, a few miles from Schull. It's got a big family room and it's in a picturesque area.
In East Cork you could try around the Shanagarry (e.g Barnabrown House- not a B+B, more a country house, but it has lots of animals roaming around)
Cobh isn't so rural, but it's a nice place for a day trip..

Dear D McGarry,

Allow me to agree with Mary regarding Fortview, in Goleen. It's a remarkable B & B, and West Cork is a lovely, relatively undiscovered region.

Cobh is by no means rural, but is worth a half-day, given its connections to the Lusitania, Titanic, and emigration. By all means, see the town's museum, located on the waterfront. Also, take a hike up to the striking cathedral which offers smashing views of the waterfront.

Consider staying at the wonderful Shelburne House, in Kenmare. It's located just outside of town, and it features memorable breakfasts and very attractive lodging. Killarney National Park is only a scenic half-hour drive from Kenmare.

Another consideration is in Dingle at Greenmount House. The Dingle area is one of Ireland's true highlights, and Greenmount is super-tidy, nicely located just a short walk from downtown Dingle, and offers award-winning breakfasts (try the Guinness and porridge).

Best of luck.
