How long will you be spending in Rome? That is quite a long time in a train for a daytrip. If you want a daytrip from Rome, go to Orvieto as it is much closer.

We enjoyed seeing the leaning tower of Pisa on our way to the Cinque Terre. We were there in June 2002 and they had recently reopened the tower to tourists and our kids were thrilled to be able to climb up to the top.

I would try and pick something closer to Rome rather than spending so much precious time in a train. Save it for your next visit. Buon Viaggio!!

My husband and I did this several years ago but we have been to Rome many times so it wasn't like we were taking time away from things we had to see there. It was a pleasant day trip. At that time, the Tower was closed to visitors but we walked around the Campo, saw the Duomo and Baptistery, had a nice lunch, walked around the old quarter and finally went to the art museum on the Arno.

We will be in Rome for a week and it is not our first trip. We have also been to Piza but this time we're taking our 14 yr old daughter and it was her #1 request. So we really feel like we should go there.
We thought we'd catch an 8 am train, get to Pisa 11:30 and then spend the day at the tower, etc and catch a 4 pm train back to Rome.
It seems like a leisurly trip since we'll be on the train and not having to think about traffic, parking, etc.

I would do it then since you have been to Rome before and have a week there this trip and probably have seen most of the big sights. We loved seeing the Tower of Pisa and are glad that we were able to climb to the top! You might be able to get tickets in advance to do this. We bought our tickets first thing when we arrived and had to wait a few hours. We were there at the end of June.

Thanks.
Last time my husband I were in Pisa, the traffic was so bad we couldn't find a place to park and never got to climb to the top of the tower.
