Day trips from Rome in Late Nov.

Looking for input regarding the best day trip from Rome in late November dependent upon public transportation. Would love to go to Capri or the Amalfi Coast but get the feeling that even Naples and Pompeii would be a stretch! Appreciate your feedback regarding destinations at this time of year (Tivoli in November/December?), travel time and transportation hints!

Many threads on this. A quick response--Naples is two hours from Rome by train, Pompeii another 40 minutes beyond. For the Amalfi Coast or Capri, again add at least an hour to the time it takes to get to Naples. Whether these are "daytrips" sdepends on how much time you want to spend getting there and back. My idea of daytrip: less than 2 hours one way. In that category fall: Tivoli, Ostia Antica, Castelli Romani, Orvieto, and even Florence. Personally, I ike Orvieto--it's an hour away by train, a beautiful location on a hilltop, and small size make it a lovely break from Rome.

Hi

Another vote for Orvieto.

You can 'do' the Amalfi Coast by taking the train to Naples, the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento and the Sita bus to Positano. Stop there for a while, and then on to Amalfi. You will be back in Rome that night.

Either Capri or the Amalfi Coast are feasible if you don't mind a long day.

You'd need to make a very early start to maximise daylight hours. The Amalfi Coast especially is a long trip.

Another alternative to add to the list is Assisi - about 2 hours from Rome. One of my favourite day-trips.

Hope this helps ...
