Day trips from Abano Terme (Padova), Italy

We'll stay for 1 week (09/13/09-09/19/09) in Abano Terme, 15 min. drive from Padova. I checked Google Maps for: what to see near by this place.
Vicenza ~50 km, Largo di Garda(Sirmione) ~127 km, Venice ~60 km (we already had chance to see Venice few times), Verona ~95 km.
What will be our best choice to see this places. We can leave hotel after 11 am, not earlier.
Is it good idea to rent a car for day trip. Do they have buses between these places to take for day trip purpose.
We have to come back to hotel for dinner around 7-8 pm.
Any suggestions, since we are leaving on September 5th.
Thank you.

I stayed in Padova for a week last summer and did day trips to Verona, Vicenza, Venice, Bologna, and Treviso. I did all by train and it was very easy. My trip report from that trip is at: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...d-budapest.cfm

I'm not sure where Abano Terme is or if the train stops there so that would make a difference if you need a car or not. If you were on a train line I'd say that would be easier.

There are also buses but generally the trains seemed easier for me.

I'm curious as to why you can't leave the hotel until after 11 am.

Thank you Isabel for your response.
Abano Terme is famous for natural thermal spas with mud treatment. We'll have our treatment in the morning. We bought 5 days treatment package from hotel on-line.
Have you been on Largo di Garda and how long it takes to reach Verona by train.

Hope everyone does not mind if I resuscitate this thread. We will be in Padua next week and would like to do a daytrip to ABANO TERME.

Can anyone recommend a place in Abano where we can do the mineral pool outdoors... just for a few hours? I came across one place called "Piscine Columbus", but wanted to know if anyone had recommendations. Thanks!
