Day trip to Mesquita, Cordoba

Is the Mesquita in Cordoba worth a day trip from Sevilla, given that we only have 3 days in Sevilla? The more I read about Cordoba, the more I think we should include it in our itinerary. I would only be interested in seeing the Mesquita. If we arrive at 4:30pm and leave 8:30pm, is that enough time to see it? Is it worth taking away from our short time in Sevilla? Yes I am guilty of trying stuff a lot into a limited schedule but I don’t know when I might be passing through this area again. On the train ride, I figure we will be taking our afternoon naps anyway.

'If we arrive at 4:30pm and leave 8:30pm, is that enough time to see it?' - Yes, more than ample.
'On the train ride, I figure we will be taking our afternoon naps anyway.' - At forty odd minutes, it will be a short nap (and do not nap too deeply or you might miss your stop).

Very well worth the trip, but be aware that the Mezquita closes at 7pm from March to October. 6 pm in winter. Makes a very fine trip: Lunch in Sevilla, two short train rides and the wonderful Mezquita and back in Sevilla for dinner.

Bar Santos in Calle Magistral González Francés, 3 along the eastern side of the Mezquita is a laid-back and small respite in this heavily touristy area. Wonderful Jamón Ibérico.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked for ticket availability on the renfe site and I'm guessing I could buy AVE tickets the same day. I may do that and not commit to it now. Any discount tickets appear to be long gone.

Just returned from three weeks in Spain -- YES Cordoba was so worth the 'one night turnaround' -- we stopped en route from Madrid to Seville. Enjoyed the Mezquita more than lots of other alcazars/cathedrals. Lunch in Cafe Rubio in the old Jewish quarter had one of the top 3 sangrias from our whole trip as well as a delicious lunch. I would keep the nights in Sevilla and go up for a day trip to Cordoba and be back in time for dinner in Sevilla.

The Mezquita is certainly worth your time and we also loved the city of Cordoba itself.

Be aware that the Mezquita is the Cathedral of Cordoba and on certain occasions there is cult going on and is closed to visitors. Check this before going to Cordoba.

We just returned this week from 21 days in Spain. We were able to spend 4 nights in Seville (fabulous city) and two nights in Cordoba(also a wonderful city with so much to see)The Mezquita is amazing and one of the highlights of our trip. I too was going to warn you that it does close fairly early. The train ride from Cordoba to Seville is great and very quick.Enjoy!
