Day Trip To Florence
Hi
Want to know if it is possible to take a day trip to Florence from Rome. How long is the train ride? Is their an express train? Don't beat me up for this request. I would love to spend more time in Florence, but not do-able this trip. Thanks in advance

It's 95 minutes (yes, quite "express" - - about 180 miles) and plenty do-able. See www.trenitalia.it for the frequent departure times.
Best wishes,

Absolutely possible but Florence in many ways is more charming than Rome and if at all possible I would suggest you try to spend at least night if your plans are flexible - between the David, Uffizi, Duomo the leather markets and Ponte Vecchio as well as lovely stroll by the Arno at night you really want to plan some quality time in the amazingly beautiful city.

I believe you'll want to take the Eurostar (ES), as there will be no stops between Rome and Florence. I'm not sure how early in the morning the first train departs, but the last train out of Florence to Rome will arrive back into Rome around midnight. This will be too late probably to use the Metro, but you will be able to take a taxi from Termini to your hotel.
Enjoy!

Hi brit,
It is doable, but not recommended. There is too much in Florence to just whiz through on a daytrip.
However, train schedules are at www.trenitalia.com/en
Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 1.60 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.
