Day trip Rome to Orvieto
Hello Fodorites. We will be a group of about 9 adults traveling from Rome to Orvieto for the day on Friday, May 15th. We have a place for lunch but were wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a driver and/or a tour for the day. Not sure we really want the tour as we will likely
just wander on our own so tips on what to do and see would also be much appreciated. We would leave around 9 in the morning I believe and return after lunch at around 3. One of our friends also cannot walk very far so I was going to look into some type of scooter for him or a place that he might be comfortable sitting for a little bit while we wander around. Any input much appreciated

For a day trip like that, I have taken the train and i would just take that for you too. Orvieto is very easy from Rome, and once you arrive the funicular up from the station saves a lot of effort. For your friend who cannot walk much, I’d plan around Piazza del Duomo because it’s the prettiest area and there are cafés where they could sit comfortably while you wander a bit. The cathedral is absolutely worth it, and the underground tour is interesting if your group likes history. The town is small enough that you do not need a full tour in my opinion.
