Day Trip from Barcelona to France

I have about one day to travel from Barcelona into France, I'm visiting my sister and will only be in Barcelona for 4 days anyway, I know I probably should stay in Barcelona but I really want to see France... I have no idea where to go... I'm looking for good sites, good food and not more than 5 hours away by car or train. Please advise... I leave on the 28th!

Just over the border is Couliere (sp?) one of the most lovliest French seaside towns - just a few miles from Port Bou, the Spanish railhead with trains hourly from Barcelona and frequent trains to Coulere. About two hours each way and quintessentially French.

Collioure, in case you need to look it up.

Agree, lovely town...

I was going to suggest the same town...lots of galleries and good seafood....but as you're driving in the area pop into the towns and discover the local muscat (red or white). We just had our last drop from the bottles we carried back with us two years ago and need to go back to the area to restock the cellar!

Not to rain on the parade, and yes, Collioure is a beautiful place, but you can hardly call a couple of hours (which is what you will have counting travel time and sleep) "seeing France." For the same reason I discourage fellow travelers from taking a day trip to Tangier from Spain, I will say that you are much better off staying in Barcelona. I wouldn't even recommend any trips to nearby cities with only 4 days.

And most times when you cross the Spain?France border by rail, you do not get a passport stamp (if that was a motivation for you).
