SNCF reservations question

French travel experts, help! I'm trying to make reservations for Friday, July 28, from Rennes to Paris. The only thing that is available on that day is a (ugh) 7Am train that changes in Le Mans and then arrives in Paris around 11am. I thought I'd get a nice TGV train that would get us into Paris quickly and easily in 2+ hours.

Is it possible that all the trains are booked up? or, is it (fingers crossed here) too early to book the tickets? I checked the day before and I got the same results.

Please reassure me (or tell me the bad news), so that I can either adjust my plans, or prepare to get up far earlier than I'd like.
Thanks,
Paule

Hi, maybe it is too early...
I just tried on the 14/7 and I found a (nice) TGV at 8.05am to Paris Montparnasse direct 10.25am. With a prem ticket for 37€...
good luck!

Yes, it is too early. You can book up to 90 days in advance. And if you do it as soon as the 90-day window opens, you may be able to get a cheap PREM'S (discount) ticket. Go to www.bahn.de, the German national rail site that has timetables for most of Europe, and you'll see that there are direct TGVs from Rennes to Paris throughout the day.

Funny, I don't see the Prem's fare coco mentioned. I found only 07.10 with change at le Mans. However, the timetable search gives 08.05, 09.05, 11.05 as direct trains/no change so, if you can find Prem's 08.05 now that's good but if not, wait for a week or so. Prem's fare normally "should" appeare from 3 months before (and ordinary fare reservation is possible only from 2 months as before?)so I'd say it's too early. Still I cannot explain why coco's search found Prem's fare for further ahead than 3 months.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your quick responses has has reassured me, and I will most definitely book as soon as the 90 day period begins.

I do see that there are many trains running, so I was more than a little concerned when no seats were available EXCEPT the crack-of-dawn 7am train.
Thanks again!
Paule
