Current info on car rental in Ireland

I need to rent a car in Ireland. Is there any new information I should know regarding CWD and other extras? Thanks in advance. Any recommendations for a rental car company?

There quite a few topics on renting a car in the Ireland forum that are recent. Just page through!

Newish news ... Visa Signature cards issued by Chase Bank no longer exclude Ireland from the rental CDW coverge.

Yes, but -- Do the Car Hire companies ACCEPT that coverage?
Most of their web sites specify: "Only certain US-issued MasterCards or Canadian-issued Visa Cards" as acceptable by THEM!
Getting a card to agree to cover Irish Car Hire is only HALF of the battle.

All that is necessary is a phone call in advance to see if they accept the coverage provided.
It is much simpler to rent/insure a car than indicated on the forums.

I've always had good service from Dan Dooley. They give you their full price up front, and no surprises when you pick up the car. I did get the extra coverage last trip, and two tires needed replacing (both at once!). They refunded me my costs with no quibble, and quickly. I highly recommend them!
