I think it would add something extra to your travels to be in France for the Women's World Cup. Friends who've been in France or Spain during a Men's World Cup loved the excitement, even the non-fans. Friends of ours visiting Brazil the year they lost the final said there was a festive atmosphere even though Brazil lost. Everybody had firecrackers ready for the win, but when they were resigned to losing they set off the firecrackers even before the game ended. The next day, oof, the whole nation was depressed.

2016 was the summer the European Cup was held in France, and it was extremely popular judging by the number of TVs we'd see or hear that were tuned to a game. I can't say anything about crowding because we weren't anywhere near major cities, but it did raise the cost of car rental quite a bit. Arriving or leaving a day earlier we'd have had a better price, but we'd already bought our plane tickets.

Also, we gave up on the idea of spending our last night near CDG because there was a game that night at St Denis and every place I checked was already booked--this was a month before we left home.

When we went to pick up our car on arrival at CDG, we had a much longer than usual wait since Hertz at Terminal 1 had run out of cars. But these were minor problems that didn't impact our trip much, if at all.

Go and have a great time!

I agree with Coquelicot that being in Paris during the World Cup would be a major plus and not at all an inconvenience. It has unfortunately been the case in the last decade that people are so afraid of major events that bookings go down for things like the Olympics and other major sporting championships. The Women's World Cup needs as much support as it can get if one wants to support equality, and it would be tragic to avoid it.
