Credit cards at gas pumps

Can you use a credit card at gas pumps in Germany?

Some. Otherwise, you just take your card inside where it will be welcomed.

Finding pumps that accept cards is a rare find indeed... I have yet to see one in 18+ months of driving around. Finding a cashier to accept your cards will be no problem at all!

The same answer as above but worded differently:
Yes, all gas stations accept credit cards. But unlike the US, where you put your card in a slot at the pump itself, most stations are manned and the attendant will "swipe" the card and you sign, like in the old days.
The few "self pay" pumps accept only local debit/credit cards with a pin number.

Actually, I believe the "self pay" pumps (at least in France) only accept cards with a chip (not with only a magnetic strip), not sure whether they must be "local" or not.

Simple answer: no.

Only large companies take cc's (Shell, Aral, BP), only at larger stations, and only inside.

The first place we saw a credit card pump was Europe...Switzerland tho. That was 1990, so I suspect they are readily available now...but like others, we never had a problem paying with a credit card inside.
Have a great trip. Linda

Too many petrol stations in Switzerland don't take non-swiss credit cards, even other European countries'.
