Cranley Hotel-nearby restaurants?

I booked at the Cranley Hotel in South Kensington partly on the basis of all the nice things people in this forum had to say about it. Does anyone who has stayed there have suggestions of nearby restaurants? We're an older couple who would prefer not to travel far at night.

I haven't stayed at the Cranley Hotel but I've stayed at the hotels on Sumner Place which is nearby.

From your hotel walk down (south) to Old Brompton Road which is about a block from your hotel. Walk east, or left, toward the South Kensington tube station, which is about three blocks away. There are a number of restaurants on Old Brompton Road and on the side streets just before you get to the tube station. There is also a small 24 hour grocery store, laundry, bookstore, news stand, drug store (Chemist), post office, ATMs, plus other useful stores between your hotel and the South Kensington tube station.

This is a very good part of the city so don't worry about wandering around there in the evening.

For a more formal Italian restaurant, from Brompton Road turn right on Sumner Place, walk to Fulham Road, turn left and the restaurant is on the left within a block. Sorry I don't remember the name. Also, from there you can cross Fulham Road and turn right on Sydney Street which will take you to Kings Road, which is a popular shopping area.

Marcella-

We stayed at the Claverly which is on the same street as the Cranley-
All you have to do is walk around the corner to Brompton Road and there are TONS on great restaurants--

I know we had Italian there and also terrific Indian food-Plus you are only 1 1/2 blocks from Harrods and their food hall and take out....

You might want to go to a website :
www.chowhounds.com or www.chowhound.com and ask for some names of specific restuarants on Brompton Rd-- THAT particular road also has some good shopping boutiques...

Good choice with the Cranley - I'm sure you'll love it. Each room has a one-page restaurant guide listing and giving a small review of restaurants nearest the hotel.

Thank all of you so much. I'm sure we could have found things for ourselves, but it brings peace of mind to have some ideas before we go.

I stayed at the Cranley in November 2002. There are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. There is a nice french resaurant about 2 blocks away. Make sure you have hors' dourves at 7:00pm. I always missed afternoon tea but I am sure it was great.
