Where would be a good location for 2 couples to rent a cottage for a week? We would be looking for a relatively central location from which to day-trip by auto or train.

csr FYI - there is no "Ireland Forum". All threads are on the same board. Look at the forum and you will see an Italy question follwed by a rental car question followed by a GB question, and so on. Clicking on Ireland merely allows someone to search for information about Ireland. Your title is very vague. You perhaps would have better luck it you start over with a new thread with 'Ireland Cottage Rentals?' in the title.

I prefer the west of Ireland, so I'd suggest the areas around Galway, Clifden or Westport, Kenmare, Kinsale, Dingle, or anywhere in Donegal.<BR> The Irish Tourist Board website www.ireland.travel.ie has lots of info on self-catering cottage rentals.

We rented a cottage for a week in Kenmare and it was perfect. Kenmare is a large enough town that there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from. A very tasty fish and chips take-out place. Also, a fantastic bakery called "Jams" that had the best whipped cream pastries I've ever eaten - and my Dad was a baker.<BR><BR>As for the location, Kenmare is ideally located between the Beara Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry. Dingle is also doable in a day. <BR><BR>We found our cottage (Bluebell Cottage) by going to the Kenmare website - it was listed there. We rented directly from the owner. It was one of the nicest cottages we've stayed in - very very comfortable. Three bedrooms with double beds in each. One block from downtown.

You could always try Harvey's dock in Youghal Co.Cork Ireland http://www.harveydock.com<BR>We stayed there fora wekk last summer and though it was a great base for the South of Ireland

If you are interested in the West of Ireland i would suggest Co. Roscommon as it is a central location for touring the west and one hours drive will take you to any of the towns and cities in counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Westmeath, Leitrim etc. Roscommon county itself is steeped in history and heritage and has many attractions for visitors as in Museums including Ireland's only Famine Museum at Strokestown, Castles, Abbeys, Stately Homes etc. e.g. Clonalis House at Castlerea and during the year there are various Festivals and Events in the towns and villages throughout the county.<BR>Contact Ireland West Tourism at Email: [email protected]<BR>Web: www.irelandwestholidayhomes.com

Galway is a great place to base yourselves as it is close to loads of places you'll want to visit (Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, Kerry, Cork, Limerick, Mayo, Donegal) and you can drive to and from places like Kilkenny and Kildare even Dublin but watch the time so you can get &quot;home&quot;! (Summer days are long in light so it's do-able tho.)<BR> <BR>Cloch na Scith in Spiddal just outside Galway City is a great place to base yourselves. The owners have a thatched cottage in front of their B&amp;B that you can rent out although I'm not certain on the number it holds.
