I will be curious to see what we hear on this one. We have tentatively scheduled a week in Corsica in conjunction with trips to France and/or Italy for the last three times, but always cancel when I can't seem to get excited about Corsica after I do the research, and the opinions from others are usually "it's fine if all you want to do is relax" (which I don't do very well), or "it just doesn't compare to somewhere like Sicily."

I'm with Joelle on this one , I've had two holidays in Corsica and love the place. The scenery is wonderful and though other places may have more known 'tourist sites' that does not mean there is not plenty to see. Places that stick in my memory include Bonafacio the old capital, Corte, Calvi and the gorgeous mountain scenery round the Col de Bavella. A week will only just dent the surface as it is a large island and the roads are twisty but do go if you get the chance it is well woth it.

Keep talking!! It does indeed sound beautiful. I had trouble finding hotels in the cities, and I am not into staying out in some pretty place with a view but nothing to do at night. I do not like driving at night, especially on those roads, so like being in a lively old town with lots of restaurants and cafes and people watching. I am not concerned about the day time, knowing that the scenic drives and hikes would be wonderful. Can anyone recommend the types of hotels in town that I seek? As I mentioned before, I am not into relaxing on a beach or a mountain resort.

I prefer the west of the island and I guess somewhere like Calvi would fit the bill, it has an old quarter, lots of restaurants and I guess you could while away some time people watching, I stayed in Ile Rousse for one holiday which also had a good choice of bars and restaurants, though if you are looking for a club type scene as found on other of the Med. islands Corsica would not be for you. Prices were on a par with the South of France. On my second visit I stayed near Propriano again a good choice of restaurants. As for where to stay I can't recommend any hotels as I stayed in a rented villa but you could look at the Logis de France web site for some ideas. Hope this helps, I will try and answer any other questions you may have.

Corsica was a port of call on a Mediterranean cruise we took several years ago and was a fantastic spot. I would love to go back again. Check out the French Tourism Office (www.francetourism.com) and link to Corsica. From what I recall, you can even ski there!!

-
During this spring & summer, has anyone made a visit to Corsica? Enjoy? Hotel suggestions? Am considering a couple days visit along with a trip to Italy in October (everything's still in planning stage).
Just did a search and not alot of info is posted on this forum --- so thought I'd raise this issue to the top.
