HI Morgana--I was the "chastised"
poster who was corrected about St. Ives, Cornwall. I never thought another thing about it until I found a bag w/some souvenirs we had bought there. One of them was a postcard w/a lovely illustration and the rhyme about the cats. When I turned it over, it was imprinted, St Ives, Cornwall. So while you are probably correct about the derivation of the original rhyme, the Cornish are capitalizing on it, at least in the post card market!!

Oooops, hope you didn't feel too chastised!
Actually I have just googled the subject (maybe I need to get out more!!!) and it looks like both places claim the rhyme as their own, but with the Cambridgeshire one having maybe the stronger argument.
