Copenhagen-Oslo Boat Ride Question
My family will be making our first trip to Scandinavia in August. We would like to know what the overnight boat ride from Copenhagen to Oslo is like. We have a four year old with us, plus my husband is prone to sea sickness if the water is rough at all. Thank you.

We took the same boat(ship) 4 years ago. Our mistake was not caring about whether the cabin was below the water level. I was sorry we did not see the docking of the ship the next morning and also the sights as we approached either Copenhagen the first morning or Oslo on the return. It is a very large ship. We did not feel the undulations of the sea at all. We spent a lot of the time gazing at the sea from inside. The chairs were very plush and the area carpeted. Your 4 year old will have plenty of area to run. The rooms are very, very small. We ate in both the large buffet and the more intimate restaurant and were very happy. It was a great experience. Our sons loved the clubs . They are now 25 and 22. Our daughter at 12 was not happy... not much to do at that age. They had a nice indoor pool where a lot of the younger children played. We also went into the sauna. It was too cold in late July to go outdoors.

Have a great time!

Hm... I used to love travelling on the ferry to Denmark when I was around 12. I suppose it depends on the person. Though when I think back I can't remember what I did when I was there!

I also wanted to note that the reason it is too cold to go outside in late July is because of the wind - Scandinavia in late July can be very warm once on shore.

Diana,
I had a similar thread going on this board a few days ago. Bjorn (who answers questions here about Oslo) has taken this boat a number of times. I had the same questions as you.

I was told that the boat is so big, you tend not to get motion sickness, so your husband who (like mine) is prone to sea sickness should be fine.

The prices for a seaview cabin are reasonable. Dinner is $22 p.p., cheaper for the child (we're taking a 12 year old).

Go to the website www.seaeurope.com, and you even get 360 degree video photos of the inside of the ship and the rooms. Also, the company was very nice when I called.

We'll be heading in the other direction in August. We can wave as the ships pass!

Thank you all very much for your helpful answers. Since I wrote last, my husband is now interested in the overnight ferry to Helsinki just for the experience on the Silja line. Is the experience from Copenhagen to Oslo similar enough that the Helsinki ferry would not be worth doing as well?
