Copenhagen in December

Our family of 5 will be visiting Copenhagen between Christmas and New Years. Would appreciate any suggestions on reasonable places to stay that will hold 5 of us and things to see and places to eat at that our children, aged 11, 14 and 16 would enjoy.

What is your definition of a reasonable price? What level of accommodation do you want?

This site might be helpful; it is the official tourism site for Copenhagen:

I'd like to stay under $200 a night. Also we'll be driving from Gothenburg to Copenhagen and return so any suggestions for stops along the way would be appreciated.

I think the fast train between Gothenburg and Copenhagen takes 2.5 hours, and I doubt you could drive it as quickly as that. The fast train is not cheap, though (but neither will a car be).

For $200/night for five people (you mentioned the ages of your kids on the other thread and they're well above the discount age), you might have to go for a hostel.

Otherwise, I would suggest bidding on Priceline for two rooms and accept that one kid might have to sleep on the floor. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com. The Mermaid Hotel has somewhat primitive bathrooms, but is likely to come up, if anything does, at the 3* level. The reason I would recommend the Mermaid, though, is that it has a wonderful large free breakfast, and if you have to buy breakfast for five people that would probably cost $100 or so right there. So maybe even consider booking the Mermaid or another hotel that offers breakfast conventionally. At biddingfortravel.com, the Palace and the Marriott have come up at the 4* level. Neither offers a free breakfast. The Marriott sounds like a beautiful hotel, and the Palace sounds like a crummy hotel but I know it's very nicely located.

The woco.dk site might help you find a bed and breakfast place that will accommodate all of you for the price you want. It will probably exclude breakfast, though.

You might also want to consider parking expenses. That will probably be $20/day or so - a lot cheaper than a lot of places.

Sorry to keep posting, but I'm remembering more as I think back to my own research for cheap accommodation earlier this year. The Euroglobe could offer five beds per room, for a price of 137 Euros. This includes breakfast. The drawback is that the hotel has shared facilities.
