Copenhagen and Hamburg in March

I was contemplating a trip to Copenhagen for four days and and then on to Hamburg for 6 days. I've seen some posts about less daylight and terrible weather. Can I enjoy Copenhagen and Hamburg in March? I don't mind cold weather, but I obviously don't want to go there if everything's going to be cold. I was contemplating 3/13/03 - 3/24/03 as the dates for my trip.

Haven't been to Hamburg but did spend a couple of days in Copenhagen in mid-February a few years ago and it was very cold, but no rain. Other than Tivoli Gardens everything else seemed to be open. Took a city tour and wandered the pedestrian street near Tivoli. Viewed the palace and a changing of the guard, as I recall. I don't feel I missed anything (even tho' it was obviously a short stay). I would have preferred a Spring/Summer trip but if your only choice is March, personally I wouldn't give it up. I wish I could remember the name of a great restaurant located in a former convent. It was advertised in a brochure. Anyone else know of this restaurant?

Terence - not the best time of the year, but I would never let weather interfer with an opportunity. The gardens in Tivoli and around the Alster will not be as spectacular as later in the spring but the cities will still be there in all there glory. May I suggest a side trip to Lubeck while in Hamburg. Pray for sunshine and warm weather - you might luck out! In any event ENJOY!!

FYI--in my first post, I meant to say "if everything's going to be [closed]." Oops! As I said before, I don't mind cold weather at all.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been to Europe in about 8 or 9 years and those cities just sound really cool to me and my next option after March would be the summer when it'd probably be too expensive for me to go. For some reason, southern Europe (e.g., Italy, Spain, etc) don't appeal to me right now.

Terence - these are not tourist dependent cities so everything except the outside venues (gardens, sidewalk cafes, etc.) will be open.

Thanks Charlie! One more question to everyone. I keep hearing about shortened daylight periods. How much daylight are we talking here?

Terence - at the time you will be there, expect sunrise around 6:00a and sunset around 7:00p. Remember that Europe switches to Daylight Savings Time on the last Sunday in March.
