Any details/tips on getting to Venice from Treviso and back again? How long does it take? The Ryan Air flight from Paris was too good to pass up.

There's a bus and it takes a LONG time - like an hour and a quarter to Piazzele Roma - then a vaporetto into Venice proper.

THINK TWICE before you do this.

While your flight from Paris (BVA) gets in at 20:20; you wont get to venice Piazza Roma until 21:50.

Have you even looked into how far BVA is from Paris? It's almost 60 miles outside of the city.

And if you are flying back to Paris, in order to catch the 20:45 flight, you need to take the 18:00 bus departing Piazza Roma.

Hey, I say DO IT, you're on vacation, what's an hour here or there if you save a bunch of money? You're not on a business trip running from one appointment to the next, are you?

Just google each airport, they all have their websites, the ground transportation info is right there, and buses run in sync with the planes coming and going.

if you have not flown with Ryanair, read every word of their rules, they are not kidding with their restrictions on luggage, and be there well before you think you have to, otherwise the bargain turns into a nightmare.

But if you follow the rules - why not?

There are often cheap flights on more convenient routings, like Paris Orly to Venice Marco Polo.

I think it would be worth at least 50 Euros more per ticket to have that routing instead.

thanks for the bus info. the ryan air flight is a done deal. too late to talk me out of it. i've flown ryan air from BVA before. i caught their shuttle and didn't think it was that much of a hassle for the price. i need to let my B&B in venice know how late i'll be getting in though - so i appreciate the info about the transfer time.

i really don't see what the problem as -we arrrived at the Rialto after 11pm and were met by the owner of our apartment, so getting to the Piazzale Roma at 21.50 or even 22.00 seems quite early.

so long as your hotel or B&B knows what time you are turning up and you have their phone no. in case of delays it should be OK.

and think where you'll be waknig up!

I haven't gone from Treviso airport to Venice, but last summer I was staying in Padua and traveled around the area quite a bit. I flew out of Treviso airport and took the bus from Padua and it wasn't bad. But the other option I considered was to take the train to Mestre and the bus from there to Treviso. You could look into that. I think the bus from Mestre (goes from around the corner from the train station) to Treviso airport is not that long, and then the train from Mestre into Venice of course is only 10 minutes. Might be faster than taking the bus all the way to Piassele Roma.

isabel, thanks for the info. i Might be spending my last nite in padua and was hoping i could get to treviso directly from there, but didn't see that connection on the bus timetable. i'll check on the train too.

annhig, i confess i have reservations at 4-5 B&Bs and hotels now, several right in the center of things and one out in st. elena - a quieter residential and leafy neighborhood, about 20 min walk from san marco. ever stayed out there? any thoughts about the relative merits? i'm staying 4 or 5 nites in venice (i may go to padua for my last day & nite).

kahern - I couldn't find info about the bus ahead of time either, but when I got to Padua I went to the bus station and they had time tables. Don't remember exactly, but it seemed to run pretty frequently.

I had a look at where st. elena is [in 4 trips to Venice I'd never heard of it] and frankly, i wouldn't, unless you like walking along the same streets everytime you want to get somewhere or spending a lot of time waiting for a vaporetto.you could ask Franco what he thinks on his Venice accommodation thread though.

as for your other B&Bs, I would pick the one that seemed least phased by your late arrival. alternatively, spend you FIRST night in Padua.

I like to visit and eat a meal in St Elena when I'm in Venice, but I think the walk/vaporetto ride every day could get tedious after a while, especially if this is your first visit to Venice. A friend used to stay in a convent in St Elena (before t was closed and re-formed as a hotel) so I've visited the area on a few trips.
