Concert in Vienna (or Salzburg)

Hello,

We'll be in Vienna in early September and would like to see a concert on the evening of the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. (Prefer orchestra over opera.) We're not looking to spend more than 50 euros or so though.

We were initially looking at the Vienna Mozart Orchestra at the Musikverein, but after reading a lot of mixed reviews, we're looking for other options. Is the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra similarly touristy, etc? There seem to be a lot of smaller concerts at churches like Karlskirche. Is this perhaps the way to go for our budget?

Alternatively we'll also be in Salzburg 8/31-9/1 -- perhaps we should see a concert at Mirabell Palace?

Thank you!

We find the smaller venues to be much more enjoyable, and definitely less touristy (no strolling Mozarts hawking tickets). You might also consider the Kursalon, the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra, and concerts at Stephansdom, Shubertkirche, and Peterskirche.

We enjoyed a concert in Salzburg at the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The setting was beautiful in the Golden Hall at night. The 4 piece ensemble was wonderful. Here's the link to where we purchased our tickets.

Hi jmy29, go for either Wiener Konzerthaus events (that's where my local family goes regularly), or for smaller venues, and avoid tourist-only concerts, such as those at Schonbrunn Orangerie and Kursalon, and Vienna Hofburg Orchestra. I've been to Mozart and More at Stephansdom, and at Classic Exclusive at small baroque Annakirche. Both was really nice. Concerts at Karlskirche (Church St. Charles Borromeo) are fantastic. Those are all within your range of budget. Btw, check out free live piano music at some of Vienna's coffeehouses.

I attended a concert at Stadt Park, very noisy crowd(audience), too many people and less qualiy. On the other hand, the concert at Mirabell was a much better experience for me, and cheaper too.
