Colmar day trip suggestions

Can you recommend some towns to drive to see that are not on Rick Steves' tv shows as we have already seen those?

Thanks
Orrin

Have no clue what towns Steves covered. (I find him terminally irritating.) If you list those people may have other suggestions.

Check out some of the beautiful drives through the Alsace.

You have already visited some picturesque villages along the Route du Vin.

If you are interested in pottery, make your way along the Route des Potiers. Stop in Soufflenheim & Betschdorf. You will see some lovely pieces in the workshops of local artisans - wonderful souvenirs of your trip!

The Route des Cretes will take you through the Vosges mountains. We started at the village of Thann & concluded at Col du Bonhomme. It is a very pretty drive over its passes, rounded summits, around lakes & along pastures.

We also explored the northern Vosges & drove into the regional national park. We did a circuit from Bouxwiller through Ingwiller, La Petite Pierre, Pfaffenhoffen back to Bouxwiller. One deviation & a few wrong turns led us along several scenic roads! We passed through villages so tiny that if we blinked, we would have missed them! Sparsbach was particularly pretty!

By the way, we were travelling in July.

You are visiting a beautiful region of France! Good luck with your planning!

What about Obernai and Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, it's a beautiful drive up to the château.

Enjoy!

Hi Oi,

Drive through the Vosges.

Take the D417 WB through Munster and up the mountain. As soon as you get into the woods above the valley, turn around for a terrific view. See the Col de Schluchte and the Roche de Diable.

Head NB on the Rte de Cretes (D61) for Haute Koenigsbourg.

Near Selestat, transfer to the D424 NB and head for Le Hohwald, Mont St Odile and Obernai.

Come back via the A35.

Enjoy your day.

Orrin, my suggestion is a visit to the Alsace EcoMusee south of Colmar. The association known as Maisons Paysannes d'Alsace has repositioned about 50 buildings, removing them from their village of origin and setting them in this large outdoor museum for preservation. We spent over three hours there this past May and could have stayed all day. I don't know what time of year you are visiting Alsace but weather permitting I would recommend this museum.

We stayed 1 week in Ribeauville in a gite this past May, doing day trips. Mulhouse for the auto museum, Ebersmunster for the Abbey church, Turckheim for the lamplighter walk, Munster and the Col de la Schlucht, the Ballon areas in the Vosges Mountains. Plus a daytrip to the Black Forest region of Germany and Freiberg.

Have a great trip, Deborah

I'd take the train to Strasbourg, but then I stayed in Strasbourg and day-tripped to Colmar. Awesome cathedral, neat medieval section, good town museum, boat trip on the river.
