College age female staying in Rome-- what neighborhood to pick?

Looking for neighborhoods to focus on accommodation search for young female solo traveler. Has been to Rome before, and seen the major sights. Looking for neighborhood that is safe (this is her mom posting!) and fun for a younger traveler. She will just be there three nights; coming in by train from Florence, and departing for home from Rome.

on Hotwire.com in May for $69 I booked the Sheraton Roma

It is their 4 star Rome South Hotel

It is a great price on a great hotel

Betweein Rome and the airport they have a shuttle to the aiport for 5 euro

And a shuttle to the center for 3 euros rooms were nocest there for me

Best value for sure there for 4 star in Rome for me

The Beatles stayed there in the sixties so it has been around awhile

Is the Termini a good location? I guess it's near the train station. How is it at night?

okay, I should have done some legwork first before posting.

So, right now I'm focusing on these neighborhoods:

Piazza Navona and the Pantheon
Prati
Trastevere

Are these good options? Any others?

Any specific recommendations for hotels or hostels? I'm more concerned about neighborhood than rock bottom price.

IMO Prati is not as centrally located as Navona and Pantheon.

Trastevere is great - but it's a big geography. Look for places near Ponto Sisto - there are lots of college age students in the area as John Cabot University has a satellite college there.

I have stayed here and I LOVED it!! It's in Trastevere. An awesome area of Rome with great food and lovely people! I'm going back there next week and can't wait! Oh, ans it's for women only.

avoid the Termini area...
best places to stay would be Piazza Navona, Via del Corso, Spanish Steps area or Via del Tritone. There are some good hotels there and all these areas are absolutely safe.
Trastevere is not in the center, so i wouldn't recommend it.

Beg to differ with clausar - the areas of Trastevere near the river are extremely convenient and lots of fun

Yes, agree, Trastevere near the river is quite convenient. Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori are lively areas and nicely situated.

I would also recommend to avoid the Termini area. My first choice would be the Piazza Navona area and the second choice would be the Trasetevere.
