I think its not neccessary to assume a "Rambo" attitude about traveling without fear regardless of the world situation or world opinion. I personally would not cancel a trip to Europe, but unclesam did mention his circumstances, being separated from his kids for an uncertain amount of time or even just in a time of uncertainty seems like a valid reason to rethink a vacation and he was just asking if anyone else felt the same. Calling him cowardly or a troll isn't helpful. We should all be aware of the news and attitudes of countries, and then evaluate for ourselves if we are willing to travel at any time.

I'll be visiting France next month. Activities by our political leaders have little to do w/my travel plans unless they are actively bombing my destination. Why worry about things you have no control over ? As far as being stuck, why would you even think that. If so I guess I'll just have to extend my trip, now that WOULD be terrible...

Unclesam . . . you've got my sympathy. If I were travelling alone, I wouldn't give a second thought about where I was going or when (although I wouldn't go to France on a bet, personal and political reasons.) But when kids enter the picture I don't take risks.<BR><BR>And Im with you regarding the issues. I think the chance of getting involved directly with some sort of &quot;mess&quot; is fairly low . . . like a lightning strike. But getting stuck somewhere because of events similar to 9/11 is certainly a possibility. Because of the 9/11 tragedy my brother was stuck in Italy for a little over a week because his ticket routed him back through New York. He was alone on a business trip. What a royal pain in the rear if he'd been on vacation with HIS kids!!

I would argue that Mr. Powell's presentation to the U.N. Security Council did not include substantive evidence to support war with Iraq, but I don't doubt war is imminent. Nevertheless, I intend to go through with a planned trip to Europe next week. No fear!

I agree with the above post. The presentation wasn't persuasive, but I didn't need persuading personally.<BR><BR>I did by the way cancel my trip to Paris. They can have their oil contracts with Iraq but not my tourist dollars.

It strikes me as quite odd that this 22 day-dormant post would be resurrected at 5 am today by &quot;polyester&quot; who never posted before today (one other post at 4:51 am). This entire thread is tainted by its impersonation of the registrant name &quot;uncle_sam&quot; and probably ought to be removed. It's a bizarre manifestation of the personality traits of the person who (apparently) registered it. A person who does not HAVE a wife (mentioned in the original posting), and posts on this and other threads as her &quot;real&quot; name in addition to pseudonyms.<BR><BR>If you want to check this all out, read the curiously near-identical postings made by (two of the names registered by) this person.<BR><BR>From http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&amp;tid=34399253<BR><BR>Dat e: 02/05/2003, 03:00 pm<BR><BR>Message: gypsyatheart, there's a supermarket on the lowest floor of the market. <BR><BR>Also, there's a restaurant on Vaci Utca called Fatal. The restaurant looks like a rathskellar. Its in an alley, but there's a sign on Vaci Utca. Portions are large, its very casual, and the prices are more than reasonable.<BR><BR>and from http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&amp;tid=34385298<BR><BR>Dat e: 12/09/2002, 09:04 pm<BR><BR>Message: Fatal on Vaci Utca.
