Cinque Terre - advice on individual town atmosphere and lodging
#22
OK, eks:
Monterosso: very pretty but too big for my liking; plus it's one of the main entries for day-trippers, so it gets crowded during the day.
Vernazza: very pretty but Disneyland-ish during the day. Rick Steves should have kept his mouth shut & left the place alone.
Corniglia: beautiful, and I never get tired of it; it's not for people who need action.
Manarola: my favorite. Just the right pace. Morning and evenings are especially glorious. Least popular of the 5 towns, which is probably why I like it best, especially at off-peak times.
Riomaggiore: my second favorite. Only problem is that it's one of the main entries for the cruise-crowd, so it can be a bit much after 10 in the morning when the boats dock.

<<but also some decent restaurants and a "nice" hotel to stay at.>>
--> The general atmosphere was not the only request; specific recommendations were also requested in the OP. Is that a problem?
