I am trying to decide between these three hoteles for 4 nights in March.

Does anyone have an opinion?
They all seem about the same in quality.

Nothing against the hotel, but I wouldn't pick Leveque for myself because I find the 7th more "out of the way" compared to 4th thru 6th.

St Jacques has some cinematic history about it and I like the decor..
Leveque has A/C if you'll be needing that.

Well, I don't suppose I will be needing A/C in March. Anyone else have views on this decision.

I usually like the 6th brcause of its proximity to everything I want to walk to, but more importantly I choose a hotel that is as close to the river as possible. Walking along the river is one of my favorite things, and if you are near the river in either of the 5, 6, or 7th, then you are close to everything. And a hotel near the river is easier to find from wherever you wander; you just have to remember the closest bridge to the street that takes you back.

That said, it looks like the hotel in the 6th is farthest, the one in the 7th closest, and the one in the 5th has a map that makes it difficult to determine the distance. If everything else is similer, rooms and cost, I'd go with the one closest.

FWIW I'm going in April and staying in the 6th but on the Rue Jacob. This is approx two blocks from the river and one from Les Deux Magots.

I've stayed at Grand Hotel Balcons a couple of times. I liked it a lot. The rooms were clean, the staff helpful and if you are breakfast eater, they have a great one. It is a couple blocks to Odeon metro. I love the location because it is convenient to a few metro lines and the RER that will take you to the airport - which is across the street from the Lux. gardens. I would stay there again.

I agree with cis2paris about Grand Hotel Balcons. I wanted something close to everything, including the RER to CDG. The room I had was small but nice with a double bed: 80 euro/night a year ago or so. Here's a photo of the hotel and my room (click on next).

Don't know the hotels but 7th not very good.

Hotel Saint Jacques and rue Delavigne are not so far. Maybe 10 mn walk. Saint Jacques just near la Sorbonne, student quarter.
Rue Delavigne closer to Saint Germain, restaurants.
Both are ok for me, maybe Delavigne will make you feel more in historical Paris (Saint JAcques is near Mouffetard, a lot of restaurants).

Thanks for the replies. So, I have now taken Hotel Leveque out of the mix and am also now thinking of an apartment for 7 to 9 nights.

I am surprised no one is "speaking up" for the 7th! We have stayed in this area several times and really like it (but I can't really compare it to the other ares as I have not stayed there). I like it because the Rue Cler is fairly quiet and there several cafes to sit and watch the residents shopping, taking their children to school, etc. There are other hotels besides the Leveque - we looked at a room there one time, seemed a bit cold (atmosphere). There are alot of pleasant restaurants in the area, the Eiffel Tower is nearby which is another lovely area for sitting and people watching under the trees. Several Metro Stations too - the 5th and 6th always seem busier to me but maybe I have just not found the quiet places there!

Will Peter Krynick share the name of the hotel he's going to stay in Paris in April? I'm going the middle of Sept.
