Central Hotel Location

What is your opinion of the MOST CENTRAL hotel location (central to restaurants, cafés, major tourist sights?) For example, is it in the dead center of the city near the river? Please help!

This is often the case, but you didn't specify which city. Sometimes, the nicest hotels are not in this area because the central city has decayed.

Duh, near the river? Which river and which city? Are we mindreaders?

Sorry, I meant Paris and the river is the Seine. Thanks.

The vast majority here will tell you that the 6th and parts of the 5th are the best -- between the river and St. Germain, either side of St. Michel.
