Chiswick to London

Sorry if I posted this twice, I can't find the original--new at this

We are planning our first trip to Britain for the first of April. I am really learning a lot from reading these posts. Thanks to everyone. I have a room for three nights in a private home in Chiswick reserved. I plan on taking the tube into Central London. We are really on a tight budget and want to get to know people as well as see sights. Will it be very costly to travel into the city every day? We will be going to Windsor Castle one day and think that our location is fairly good for that. We will go to Bath by coach then on to the Cotswalds, Stonehenge and York returning through Cotswalds to London for a couple of days before we return. Does this sound doable in 15 days? What's the best way to budget travel? Planning on renting a car for the Cotswalds which really scares me! Help!

Hi, we stayed with friends in Chiswick and it was an easy tube ride into central London. I would check with the people you are staying with and find out the closest tube stop. I think our closest tube station was Turnham Green which was also close to a supermarket - good for picnic supplies which is cheaper than eating out all the time. The best idea for London travel is to get a pass for 3 days, or 7 days, or however long you will be there. Don't buy a ticket for each separate trip.
I'm no expert but your trip does sound doable in 15 days but you will find there are tons of things to see in a small area, some you hadn't thought of and some things will have to wait until next trip!
Hope this helps a bit.
Kay

Actually - you have posted it three times Granted, one has a pretty useless title - but even that one has replies.

here are the other two (as cls2paris says, click on your name to find all of your threads)

I used to live in Chiswick some years back. As other posters have said, if you're staying near the High Road then Turnham Green or Chiswick Park tube stations are likely to be the most useful travel options for you. Quickest way into London is to take the district line from either of these and change at Hammersmith for the Piccadilly line. Although I lived at the Chiswick Park end, I often used to walk to Turnham Green as firstly the trains are much more frequent from there (it serves the Richmond branch as well as the Ealing branch of the district line) and also it's cheaper, as it's inside Zone 2.

Other good and cheaper transport options are the 94 bus, which starts from Acton Green (about 2min walk from Chiswick Park stn) and goes past Turnham Green station and eventually makes its way all the way to Oxford Street, and the 272 bus, which runs along the western end of Chiswick High Road and will drop you close to the Central Line station at Shepherd's Bush.

I also occasionally used to use the Chiswick and Kew Bridge rail stations but these are less convenient from the town centre.

If you've got the time, the walk from Chiswick town centre along the High Road all the way to Hammersmith is quite enjoyable.

There is a decent Sainsbury's supermarket near Chiswick Park tube station, although it is not obvious from the High Road - look for a small street called Essex Place with a market on the northern side of the High Road - the Sainsburys entrance is at the far end of Essex Place.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me if you need any more help.

Thanks for all of the great responses. Thanks JohnW and KayF for the great advice. I really have a handle on travel from Chiswick and nobody cautioned me that is was too inconvenient. This site is really a great help. I'm sure that I will have tons more questions and now know where to go!
