Child Friendly Hotels in Rome

My husband, daughters (11 and 8) and I will be in Rome for 10 days in July. I am looking for recent travelers to recommend a centrally located hotel/B&B/Inn with pool under 150Euro/night. Looking to have all of us in one room.

Thanks for your help.

I don't think a 'centrally' located hotel exists with a pool, maybe a very high end one, but it would be lots more than $150. There are large hotels outside of town that probably have pools, but then you'd have to shuttle back and forth into room. I suggest you stay in the historic center (navona/pantheon/trevi) and forget about the pool. Rooms for 4 are tricky in general. Most of the booking sites and even the hotel sites don't always mention quads. Research budget hotels, then email the hotels you are interested in asking about quads. We found a few options, but at a higher rate.

that should be 'shuttle back and forth into TOWN', not ROOM.

Just a thought, for 10 days, why don't you spend 5 in Rome, then 5 in either tuscany or umbria, at a property with a pool and other outdoor activities.

Italy is very kid friendly in general.

I took my kids, also ages 11 and 8 to Italy last July. Let me start out by saying it's a wonderful place to bring the kids and they are at a great age to enjoy and appreciate this trip. We stayed in Tuscany and Capri most of the time, though, and our places there had a pool. For our Rome portion, we chose a place that didn't have a pool since we were there for only 2 days and knew that a pool in Rome, for under 300E is impossible. The Aldrovandi Palace has an outdoor pool, the Hotel de Russie has a small indoor pool, more of a spa theme though, and the Exedra has a rooftop pool. All these three hotels are way above your budget. We stayed in a Junior Suite at Hotel Bernini which had a pull out couch for the kids. The cost was about E285 I think. Location was perfect for us, we walked everywhere. For 10 days this would become much too tight of a fit for all four of you I think. What you should do is check out some places that have apartments attached to their hotel such as Hotel Locarno or Hotel Mozart. They have units that accomodate families but you still have the services of a hotel. Karen Brown has listings that mention apartment units (karenbrown.com). Or as an alternative, check out a rental service that would have an apartment for rent which would probably be much closer to your budget (make sure it has air conditioning since July can be very hot). Have fun!

Thanks Maggy and MFNYC for your tips.
I am torn between increasing my budget and scrapping the pool. My kids are well traveled (just returned from Hong Kong and Malaysia last night)and are looking forward to this trip. But I am trying to create an itinerary where we can have active mornings and lazy afternoons and thought an hour or two each day lounging by the pool might help with that.

I am going to stick to just Rome as this is part of a longer trip that has us flying from beijing (where we live) to meet up in Rome with my parents and then onto NJ, USA before heading back to BJ in time for the next school year (mid august).

We will be doing one side trip to abruzzi with my parents, to visit the village where my grandfather was born, but other than that, I want to keep it simple by just being in one city. Doing a handful of the "must see sights" but at a real leisurely pace.

I will check out karen brown and the other sites you recommend.

Thanks again for the advice!!!

Funnily enough, my wife has recently posted a similar thread. We are in Rome with our 7 year old daughter in July for 3 nights and wanted a pool. We have booked the Holiday Inn West Rome for that reason. There are mixed views about the food and the location, but it does have a shuttle bus and the total for 3 nights is 402 Euros (£250). Mind you, the Hotel Aberdeen, which has rave reviews and is centrally located but without a pool was only 475 Euros.
The Holiday Inn would be within your budget.
Good luck. If you stay there for 10 days in July, the chances are our dates will co-incide!!

I am staying in Rome at the Residenza Canali ai Coronari (residenzacanali.com)
I am bringing my 2 kids age 8 and 9. It has gotten favorable reviews. I booked their suite- one king bedroom and another with 2 twins. The price is $232E. The nice thing is it is very close to Piazza Navona. There is always something going on for the kids to entertain themselves with from mimes to music and the lovely fountain. One parent could walk them down while the other takes a break! Just another option for you.

Bchen -- I don't know if you already booked your room, but the Exedra Hotel has a gorgeous rooftop pool. When I plugged in your dates, I got rates of 320 superior room (2 beds), 360 deluxe room (2 beds) or 700 for a junior suite. http://www.boscolohotels.com/hotel.cfm?SectionId=578

Nevermind, I just realized AR's Holiday Inn rate was a total for 3 nights, not per night. The Exedra rate is above your budget.

Here, I'll save you the time:

Message: What a great hotel!! the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, the piano bar was simply awesone. a great way to relax after a day of sightseeing.there is some remodeling going on to the front of the building, but dont let that stop you from staying here. the breakfast in the moring was great!!! eggs included.

i heard some people say the rooms are small, ours wasnt. we were 2 adults and 2 kids, we had 2 beds in different areas. it was a perfect set up. i dint see other rooms though.

some may think the location is a little out of the way, but i think its perfect. literally 5 mins from the spanish steps, it's right at the top of via del corso, and the picturesque piazza del popllo, close to shopping. we walked everywhere from here.
the area on this side of town is also more livlier and cleaner than the termini side of town.

i TOTALLY, WHOLE-HEARTEDLY, reccomend this place."

Can I second the motion for the Holiday Inn with the pool at the price you can afford? We have stayed there when a pool was a priority as it should be in Rome in July with kids and it works well for the busy morning/poolside afternoon/back to Rome for the cool of the evening rhythm.
