Cheap flights Istanbul - Athens?

I am looking for low-cost airfare from Istanbul to Athens. Do they exist?

Turkish Airlines and Olympics Airlines both fly between Istanbul and Athens. For an 1-hour flight they cost about US$340. That's about the same cost as flying from London to Istanbul (return). I wouldn't call that "cheap" - certainly not like the prices from Easyjet or SkyEurope.

Any advice other than paying $340 or taking a bus or walking?

Thanks

The Greeks and the Turks are not best friends of each others. So, not many Greeks will travel to Turkey or vice versa. That limits the choice of carriers between those two countries. You could be out of luck here.

I have many Greek friends in Greece. I am sure Alots of Turkish have too.

You may not find any cheap airline ticket because there is only 2 airlines fly between 2 countries so there is no compitition here NOT because of best friends.

Hello Sinan:

Are there trains that I can take to go to Athens or other cities in Greece? If not, I will give up the idea, and look for a 1 day side trip somewhere else? what would you recommend?

If you are going to Istanbul only for 2 days I recommend you NOT go Because you can not see any places in 2 days included Airplane.

Yes I am sure there is a TRAINE between Turkey and Greece BUT you will spend some time on the train because from Athen to Istanbul is NOT CLOSE.

Actually I will be in Istanbul for 7 days/6 nights, and so would like a short day trip, or overnight trip.

Maybe I should try Bursa or some towns along the Black Sea coast.

Train between Athens and Istabul takes 32+ hours. It's not feasible, period.
