Turkey - Cappadocia or Bodrum?
We're going on our honeymoon at the end of June/early July and we're doing one week in Greece, followed by one week in Turkey. I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not we should do Istanbul for 3 days, followed by 3 days in Cappodocia or 3 days Istanbul, followed by 3 days on the Turkish coast, possibly Bodrum. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Three days in Cappodocia could be a bit much. I did the hot air balloon which was great and the town is magical, however, if you enjoy the beach, I would go for Bodrum. Have you checked travel times and connections along with costs?

We've checked out stuff for Cappodocia, not for Bodrum. But now i'm wondering if i'm planning this all wrong. If perhaps I should just do a few days in Greece (just athens) and then head over to Turkey and possibly charter a Gulet for the first few days, heading down the Turkish Coast, and then work my way across to Cappadocia and back up to Istanbul. Am I being insane by going to Greece and not going to the islands? I'm just told that Turkish coast is so unbelieveable I'd be insane to miss it! Any thoughts...?

Yes in my opinion you would be insane to see just Athens and not the islands. If I had to give up one it would be Athens. With only 2 weeks you might want to consider a one way flight from Istanbul to the mediterrian coast of Turkey and then pick one or 2 Greek islands off the Turkish coast. Chios is fantastic and I have heard Samos is also great. Rhodes can be a day trip. Make your way back up the coast to Istanbul. We had 3 weeks and we flew to Antalya and made are way north from there. It is a big country and it takes time to get around. We had to cut out Cappodocia and save it for another trip.

Bodrum architecture looks a lot like a Greek island town...I really like the idea of a day or two in Athens, then a Turkish blue cruise, then either Istanbul or Cappadocia. Would you return home on an open-jaw through Istanbul or would you have to transfer back to Athens?
The blue cruise is spectacular and the more time you spend in Turkey vs. Greece the fancier your hotel stays can be (more bang for the buck in Turkey). Bodrum itself isn't worth more than a day or so to see the castle of St Peter and the Mausoleum ruins (it was one of the ancient wonders of the world). Otherwise it is a touristy yacht town.
