Cheap eats near St. Remy (Provence)?
As with my Paris post, I'm looking for casual, affordable restaurant recommendations in or near (within half an hour drive) St. Remy en Provence. Our budget is about 20E per person, but we could go a little higher for a great place. We are traveling with a toddler so something casual where she would be welcome would be good - no high chair or kids menu necessary, though. Thanks!

There are all kinds of places in St-Rémy itself where you can get good grub for yourself and a child, but not a lot of places where you could get a real meal for 20E or less. There's a fabulous homemade pizza place in nearby Maussane (on the road out of town toward Arles on the right side of the road) that might work, but really, St-Rémy is fairly big and there's a huge supermarket there, and you'll find places easily yourself. No reason to obsess in advance. There's a great gelato place right off the main parking lot in St-Rémy, if nothing else works. Gelato makes a great dinner, IMO.

There's a small "down home" "mom and son" which we enjoyed a few years ago..on one of St. R's side streets connecting two sides of the big oval that surrounds the centrum...
"Le Gaulois"....three course dinner €12
Another possibility is "La Reine Jeanne", also downtown St. R...ambience of a small inn, courtyard and very tasty menu offerings...they have another place in Les Baux which we also enjoyed for lunch. None of these will break the bank.....I recall the resto has a prix fixe at €20

As you wander through St Remy, you can check out menus posted outside the restaurants to see the offerings & prices.
It was a few years ago that my husband & I stayed in St Remy but we had good meals at Bistrot Decouverte (19, boulevard Vistor-Hugo), Sette e Mezzo (34, boulevard Mirabeau) and at a Vietnamese restaurant called La Baie d'Along (ask for an English menu!).
I think you can eat quite reasonably in St Remy - although "reasonable" is a relative term, isn't it? Prix-fixe menus are often a good value.
Good luck & enjoy!

Thanks, all! That is reassuring that it seems we can just wander the town when we arrive and find a few reasonable options. We will definitely keep an eye out for those specific restaurants mentioned as well. I'm used to traveling to bigger cities where it can be a bit overwhelming to sort through all the restaurants and find a decent one, but probably much easier in a smaller town such as St. Remy. And we are renting a townhouse for a week, so perhaps if we cook a few nights we can go over our 20E per person budget a bit if we find something fabulous we want to try. Thanks again!
