A couple of questions:
- Where are you flying from and is the order of places totally fixed? I say this because it may make sense to start or finish in Amsterdam (geographically for your route and you may get good flight options out of AMS).
- How are you planning on travelling from one place to the next?
You will probably be best looking at an open-jaw flight (fly into one city and out of another).

The most convenient airport, IMO, would be Milano, as major airlines (United, Lufthansa, Alitalia, etc) service Malpensa airport. To be even closer to the Cinque Terre and Florence, you could even fly into Genoa's Cristoforo Columbo airport. For your return, there are numerous US carriers departing from Munich, so that should not be a problem. I recommend getting your international ticket from www.economytravel.com - they have great low prices for tickets. I use them all the time.
