changing of guard at tower of london
Going to London in March - from what I have read watching changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace might not be the best idea. I have read its also done at the Tower of London. Does anyone know when and what time??? are there other places we could see this??
what about the horseguard....

I think you may be ever so slightly disappointed by the Guard change at the Tower. It is not a big deal - no band/horses or pomp really. It is just 2 guards accompanying a 3rd to his duty station and relieving another bloke to go home for tea.
here it is pretty much in full - and no I wouldn't worry about missing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwGe8f394Eg
The Horse Guards is better for sure - and easier to see than the one at B'ham Palace

Perhaps you are thinking of the Ceremony of the Keys which happens every night

I for one enjoy watching the full guard change at Buckingham. There are a couple of different levels. The last time we were there they did the whole shooting match, including the queen in her carriage. As we were leaving the band broke into the theme from Star Wars (not kidding).

When I take folks to the changeing at Buckingham, we start at Whithall where they form up and walk down the street with them.
They often break out with all sort of things not British . . Oklahoma! seems to be one of thier favorites.
You don't get as good a vies of the actual changing that way, but I think it is a lot better experience walking with the band

That must have been exciting for you -- But that had nothing at all to do w/ the changing of the Guard. They don't do "different levels".
When did you see the Queen? If she was in a carriage it might have been for the State Opening of Parliament, or Trooping of the Colour, or a royal wedding, or some other major event. The Queen doesn't participate in the Changing of the guard.

I think the Changing of the Guard is fun both at HorseGuards and B'House. At the latter the parading in and concert by the band (and yes, it does tend to run to Broadway and movie music - it;s not military) is better than the actual changing.
