Chamonix or Zermatt??
My husband are here in Europe and want to go skiing for around 4 days but have been hearing mixed things about Chamonix. We ski blues and blacks and on top of just a great skiing experience we love the quaint ski village with restaurants, bars, shops and apres ski. We have heard Zermatt is very charming but are undecided between Zermatt and Chammonix. Chammonix is obviously easier to get to....is it worth the extra travel to get to Zermatt? Many thanks!!

Hi mmama,
I personally don't think that Zermatt is all that charming; I've heard it called the Manhattan of the Mountains, and it seems like that. Overbuilt, overcrowded, etc.
But I don't think it's all that hard to get to; just hop on a train and enjoy the ride!
You don't say where you'll be coming from, but maybe we can help you find a closer (?) or more charming ski village.
Have fun!

I think the school holidays in France are until March 7; after that it will be a bit more quiet. If you want to go sooner, it will be hard to find a hotel, especially for 4 days; many will insist on a week.
