Central Hotels in Barcelona?

Hello All,

If anyone could give me a few pointers on the following question, I would be most greatful.

My Wife, and two of her friends are going to Barcelona for 3 days in March.
Mainly for shopping and a few sites!

She asked me to try and find them a nice hotel, not to expensive which is in the heart of the city, close to shops, cafes etc. What is the main shopping street?

Any areas to avoid for 3 females?

Anyway, I'm guaranteed plenty of hot dinners if I can come up trumps with a nice hotel, so all suggestions are welcome!

Thank you all,

Major.

Hi

What about an apartment - more room. This one is funky - http://www.destinationbcn.com/asr2.htm

Or this hotel - http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com. Will they want a triple room? For 55E each a night have a look at the suite - great deal!

Or - http://www.hostalcentralbarcelona.com

Cheers

I stayed at an NH hotel in Barcelona a few years ago. It was an easy stroll to Las Ramblas, which is a great street for shopping and strolling. NH was also very close to the square (can't remember the name) where you catch tour buses around the city.

Our room was not very big. I don't know if you can book a triple at NH. That would be the only drawback with staying there, I think.

A couple of yeara ago we stayed at the Hotel Inglaterra. It's a few blocks from Las Ramblas and also close to the Gothic Quarter. The location is great for shopping and sightseeing; the hotel cost was 150 to 160 Euros at that time. It's a modern interior inside an older building, good breakfasts, competent and reasonably friendly service. I don't know that there are any areas to avoid for a group of women, but you should watch for pickpockets in the market off Las Ramblas.

I suggest you check out the apsis hotels..there are several..including the Atrium Palace

http://www.hotel-atriumpalace.com/

We stayed there this past July at 110 Euros a night and got the huge breakfast buffet at half price for booking online. The hotel is immaculate, two blocks from the Placa Catalunya and an easy walk to the top of Las Ramblas as well as close to the restaurants lining the Ramblas Catalunya.

Thank you each and every one.

Some great advice, I'm going to look for something near Las Ramblas, as Simpsonc550 suggested, strolling and shopping will be there thing.

Kind regards,

Major
