Celebrating a birthday in Rome
We will be celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday next month while we are in Rome. Although we've already promised her an early celebration at home before we leave, her actual birthday will be our first full day in Rome (and 5th day of our trip). I'm thinking that we will probably spend that day doing the Colosseum, Forum, and Palatine Hill circuit, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of something festive we can do to celebrate her birthday for lunch or dinner? Gelato and pastries are a given 🙂
I'm open to all suggestions, including shifting my original plans for the day.
Thanks!

I would think traipsing around the Colosseum, Forum and Palantine would be exhausting/difficult/not fun for a 5-year-old no matter which day you do it! I think there is a lot of information here about Rome with kids, but even though I've been there many times, it's never been with a young child, so I've never paid much attention to those posts; I think if you do a search for "Kids in Rome," you'll get lots of stuff to read.

I'm not sure if it's open in winter months, but there is a carousel on the banks of the Tiber east of the Castello... Piazza dei Tribunali.
Villa Borghese Gardens. There are lots of kid-oriented things, but I don't know what is open every day in winter. A small-scale train, pony rides, zoo, an arcade, fair-type rides, playground equipment, 4-wheel "family" bike rental
Largo di Torre Argentina houses a cat sanctuary. If the weather's nice, you'll see many, many cats wandering the ruins.
