Castello or San Polo area??

Hi,
I am trying to decide where to stay in Venice, Gli Angeli in Castello or a studio room at Ca'della Corte in the San Polo area. Which area do you prefer and why?

Thanks,
Crystal

Hi

Assuming that the accomodations are equal, I would prefer the S Polo area.

However, Venice is not so large that you can't walk from anywhere to anywhere.

If this is your first trip, I would recommend San Polo. I like being where all the action is and there isn't much action in Castello.

Castello is very "local" experience. There aren't many artisan shops and, sometimes (like this winter), they don't even turn the street lights on at night. Several x-pats living in Venice refer to Castello as the Bronx of Venice. We love it nonetheless.

Here's another vote for San Polo. We felt it the perfect area for our first visit.

I'm somewhat confused as I am also looking for reasonable and pleasant accomodation in Venice and was considering Gli Angeli. I looked up Ca'della Corte-it seems to be in the Dorsoduro area near the Piazzale Roma.
Never been to Venice before-is this a good area to be in?

I like the Dorsoduro and stayed there two years ago. It has a student life feel in some pockets and is filled with lots of places to eat and wander. You will be in close walking distance to the Piazza San Marco without being right down in the midst of it. My next recommendation might be San Polo. Every neighborhood in Venice has its charms IMO and it is quite easy to navigate one's way around using the vaporettos. You will be amazed how close everything is.
