Casserta hotels in the area

We arrive the end of June at Fuimicino and drive directly to Frascati for two nights. On the way to the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento) we will be passing throught Casserta. Does anyone have a suggestion for one night hotel or bed & breakfast in the area?
Judy

Hi Judy:

Frascati to Sorrento should be less than 3 hrs via the Autostrada, so you could consider stopping in Caserta for the day on the way. I presume you want to visit the Royal Palace which is definitely worth a visit, but should take a half day max to see thoroughly. There isn't much else to see touristwise there. If you want to stay there overnight I recall seeing a Jolly hotel very close to the palace in town, and a Novatel south of town on the Autostrada (but in an business industrial area). Those are two well known European chains, the Jolly more upscale. Haven't stayed in them though. I'm sure there are other more charming local hotels there but that's all I know.

Good Luck and Buon Viaggio!

Dan

If you want the center of the town, Jolly is the best. In the surrounding area, besides Novotel, close to it, there is Grand Hotel Vanvitelli, recently opened.
Have a nice trip and, really, don't miss Royal Palace of Caserta: apartments and park.

I'm not familiar with the Novotel and the Vanvitelli, but can confirm that the Jolly Hotel is within three minutes on foot from both the Royal Palace and the train station. It's been remodelled and is the very best hotel within a stone's throw of the Palace. You walk right past it when going from the train station to the Palace.

Remember that the Reggia di Caserta is closed on Mondays! Don't miss it because it is really spectacular .... the grandest royal palace in all of Italy!
