Carnets in London - quick Q

If I bought a 10 pack for use on the tube, can they be used at any time or can they only be used after 9:30??

...but they're only valid in the central zone 1.

Dumb question, but how is "carnet" pronounced? Is it the French way ("car-NAY&quot or is it "CAR-nit"?

Will be staying near Paddington Station (tube: Queensway, Bayswater) -- is this Zone 1???

Yes, Bayswater is Zone 1, as are most of the tourist attractions (Tower, etc.). Offhand, I can think of only the Zoo and Greenwich as being Zone 2.
