Have any of you rented a car off-site of Frankfurt airport to avoid the 19% airport tax?

If so, please share those companies and or e-mail sites with me.

The last two years, we have booked our car rental thru www.gemut.com and have picked up our car at the Avis location in Kelsterbach which is a short taxi ride from Frankfurt Airport. In May, we paid 11 Euro for our cab ride to Kelsterbach. The year before it was a little more because the cab driver got a lost trying to find the address.

The only caveat with using the Kelsterbach location is that they are only open from 8 AM until Noon during the week and closed on the weekend.

I don't remember which firm we rented from, but the pickup place was about 6 miles west of the airport, and the taxi driver got lost. If I were to do it over, I'd have printed a Mapquest or Michelin routing of how to get from airport to rental station. I was happy to save the $75, though.

Tomboy, I did have printed directions from Mapquest, but the driver didn't look at them (maybe he didn't read English?). However, he did check his map and took us right to it.
