Car rental - mulitiple countries
Does anyone know if you can rent a car in one city and drop it off in another? I want to rent a car in Amsterdam and drive it to Paris, I thought this would be a different change than the train. Plus then we can go wherever we want on the way to Paris. Does anyone know how long this car ride would be?

The drop charge between two COUNTRIES can be prohibitively high. Between two cities in the same country is usally free. Amsterdam to Paris is about five hours; for info on this or any route, driving distance, time estimate, etc., see:

www.viamichelin.com
www.mappy.com
or

www.shellgeostar.com

Best wishes,

Rex
For answers to basic questions like yours, you should call a couple of car rental companies. Many of us, including me, have rented in one country and returned the car in another; but only the rental agency can tell you exactly what their rules are, and what the extra costs might be for the type of car and travel schedule you will have. The simple answer to your question is "yes." For example, here are the rentals and dropoffs I have done in recent years:
-Rent in Nice, France; dropoff in Vienna
-Rent in Rome; dropoff in Venice.
-Rent in Dubrovnik; dropoff in Venice.
-Rent in Munich; dropoff in Zurich.
-Rent in Zurich; dropoff in Paris.
-Rent in Paris; dropoff in Nice.
-Rent in Amsterdam; dropoff in Paris.

So you can see that almost anything is possible in car rental. However, you will have to pay extra dropoff charges between countries, but normally not between cities in the same country. Again, check with the rental companies for the exact and current rules.
