car rental/lease europe

In the past my wife and I have used a company to lease a car for travel in France/Spain and gotten very good rates, but they are shy high this year.

We are looking at other companies with much better rates like www.cheap-car-rental.com and www.argusrentals.com. Anyone have experiences with these?

Thanks

Ira, thanks much for the nova rental site. They are almost half the price of AutoEurope for the exact same car. Have you rented an automatic from them without any hassles?? We are a little worried as we are looking to pick up the car in Biarritz and can't drive a stick shift.

You might try this site, although I have the impression that one-way rentals are not possible:

http://www.carrentalexpress.com/international/france/

Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have about 5 companies to compare/contrast, although I'm still curious about the two I first asked about.

Hi gustave,

AutoEurope will meet any price - if you are comparing apples to apples.

Does the Nova price include CDW insurance?

Do you want the CDW?

I suggest that you call Autoeurope and see what they will do for you.

Gemut.com uses Auto Europe. I just rented a 9 passenger van in Germany and found the best rate at http://www.germany.affordablecarrental-europe.com/ (other countries available)
Auto Europe could NOT match their price.

Hi eurot,

>Auto Europe could NOT match their price.<

Did they tell you why not?
They advertise that will match all prices.

Thanks for suggestions. So far, cheap-car-rental.com is best at $584, followed by france.affordablecarrental-europe.com at $602. Rates are for 21 days economy car and include CDW. Both these offer the Peugeot 106, which we have leased in the past and liked. Some other sites start with the 206, which adds some money. Arguscarhire.com came in at $583, but it looked like they were not including VAT. I'm still doing research.

Ira- I believe that Auto Europe no longer advertise or guarantee the lowest price. They do say they guarantee the best service. That being said they told me they could not match the price from affordable as it was lower than their cost. They then booked me a van at their cost for 20 days @ 893 euros; my quote from affordable is 754 euros. Both quotes for a 9 passenger van with complete insurance. The affordable van is from Budget, AE is using Sixt.

On the other hand Gemut does advertise the lowest prices but they now use AE so just for fun I will forward my affordable quote to them and see what happens.

I am not knocking AE, I have rented from them numerous time and they do offer great service but maybe not the best price in all cases.
