Car Rental Italy

Hello,

From year's past I remember Autoeurope being most recommended on this site, is this still the case? I have to get an automatic unfortunately. Do you recommend the no -deductible rate? Or has anyone found a car rental company they like better and may be more economical? I always feel like when I go to Italy, the price goes way up when getting the car as they present all the extra coverages- what are the most sensible ones to take?

Thank you

I still use AutoEurope and always take the zero deductible. Some folks insist their credit card company will cover any problems and that may work. However, when I've gotten the zero deductible, they don't bother inspecting the car when I take it out or return it. Hassle-free, quick and easy.

I have not checked recently, but my Capital One benefits statement states clearly that they will not cover CDW in Italy.

Most credit cards do not cover autos in Italy. Last I checked Chase Reserve does

Have regularly used AutoEurope since many years (including as recently as May in Italy) for our car rental needs, always picking a frontline supplier (Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt etc) with full protection/refundable excess super cover. Never faced any issues and always competitively priced. Our cards do not offer overseas coverage so can't comment.

When I have rent I use Auto Europe.
But your info does explain why you need a car. Are you happy with ZTLs etc?

Auto Europe. American Express. Full coverage. But price accordingly, I have had good prices and coverage with both Hertz and Avis in Italy. But always manual transmission, so can’t vouch for automatic.
