Car Rental

We will soon be driving from Switzerland to Paris. Is it better to go with American rental companies (Hertz, Avis) or a local European?

Also, does anyone know about drop-off fees between countries? Is it better to rent multiple times or get one car the whole way?

Try Autoeurope - they claim they get the best price. They are a booking agent.

You will pay a high fee for picking up a car in one country and dropping it off in another so it may be better to book separate rentals for each country.

I also recommend AutoEurope. Check the Web site, but also call their US toll-free number to ask about drop-off fees and about specials that may not be listed on the site.

Hi R,

I also suggest Autoeurope and www.gemut.comand www.novacarhire.com.

Dropping off in another country usually engenders hefty fees.

Where are you starting in Switzerland?

Try gemut.com. In most cases, they offer discounted Autoeurope rates.

You might try swapping cars in or near Geneva which, of course, is on the border with France.

Call Andy Bestor of gemut at 800-521-6722 for specific advice.
