Very. People do it all the time. What specifically do you need or want to know?
The first issue will undoubtedly be the cost of drop off in Italy for a car you pick up in Munich.

I do not know if this is still true, however, I used to travel to Munich on business 3-4 times a year.

My rental contract(s) explicitly stated that I was not allowed to drive or take my car in Italy.

A caveat to check out before the rental.

Hi M,

Even if you can find a rental agency to let you go to Italy, you will pay a drop off fee of about 300-500E.

I rented in Germany, and the drop-off fee for dropping in Zurich was only $80 thru Autoeurope.com.

Yes, but Budman, Zurich isn't in ITALY, where the HIGH drop off fees are.

Meanwhile I see that maribethp has already booked her flights in and out of Italy, so this thread no longer means anything for her situation -- she was looking for an alternative to high cost flights into Italy.

she was looking for an alternative to high cost flights into Italy.

I had the same problem then decided to fly in/out of Zurich, which is a great option if traveling to Northern Italy.
