Car insurance ? Ireland

I'd just like confirmation that i have this right.

If i buy the Excess insuance through Insurance 4 Car Hire or a company of that nature in advance. Then all i have to do is present this paper contract at the check in desk at Hertz and I'll be all set?

I'll be so glad when i have this car thing done and taken care, so i can move on to more pressing matters like what PUBS i need to visit..

Depends. Excess is just to cover the [very high] deductible and perhaps tires/glass/etc. You will still need some basic comprehensive coverage.

This thread sums it up the best (and it has an unfortunate typo that makes it hard to search).

Since most, if not all CC companies exclude Ireland (for a reason I could never understand), why not buy the insurance directly from the rental car company?

I do have the basic CDW through the travel agent i booked the rental from, but i understand this second insurance is needed and it should be cheaper to buy in advance than at the Hertz rental when i arrive. I'd rather pay for as much as i can in advance.

Actually, Hertz could care less about whether you have Excess, or not, through http://www.Insurance4CarHire.com -- or ANY other company. They don't recognize ANY Third-Party insurance.

Of course, they would RATHER you buy it from them (for the income), but they WILL collect the 'Excess'deductible from YOU in ANY case -- in the event of a claim -- via a Charge upon your Credit Card.

The supplimental insurance Reimburses YOU -- AFTER the fact.

I would double check that the CDW coverage that your travel agent is selling you is what you expect it to be, read the small print, see if Ireland is not excluded. I would also check in general how reputable is the company selling that policy, if there are no complaints, which you can Google easily. Same applies to purchasing excess insurance....

That's why I would rather buy it from the rental company (I never do, since I get it thru my CC bank, as long as I don't rent in countries which are excluded...).... Might be more expensive, but less hassle if something goes bad....

I think you misunderstood. Hertz doesn't care if you have 3rd party or not as you will get billed. You file with the 3rd party for reimbursement. You will likely find that the 3rd party coverage Bob listed will be cheaper and cover more than the Hertz Super/Excess CDW.

Again, it's all explained in the link I noted above.

Every person has risks in its life and can’t ignore the risks but can shift the risks to the insurance companies. So regular cars need to be more secured as they are used regularly and these cars have to face a lot of traffic daily so risk level is also high for these. Regular cars can be insured by many insurance companies available in the market and all companies have their different condition and age limits for different policies. The car owner has to fulfill all the requirements only then the company insure the vehicle.
