Ireland: Dan Dooley

Howdy,

Just wondering if anyone knows how much of a hold Dan Dooley puts on your CC when you rent a car with them...is it set, or do they hold the amount of the rental, or do you just pay in advance with them? Thanks for the info...2 and a half months to go!

It all depends on the insurance. If you opt for the ordinary insurance offered with the rental then car rental companies require a large deposit on account. This can be avoided if you take out the optional excess waiver which gives you more protection against claims and which is an extra charge.
Why not contact the company at [email protected] and ask them whatever you want to know and don't be living on speculation. Always be sure to be sure especially where insurance is concerned.

I haven't used Dan Dooley before, but if you are using MC for your CDW then most will put some hold on your card, anywhere from E500 - 2000. If you buy their excess waiver, then you can expect to more than double the cost of your rental. Car insurance in Ireland is one of the greatest scams there. You need a gold or platinum MC card and probably don't want to use it for anything else. As CU says, drop them a line.

Hope this helps.

Bill

I used Dooley rental in Sept with a MC and had no problems, using the MC insurance waiver. They held 1100 EU on the card in case of problems, but was never used on rental return.

Bill, I'm confused. If I use my Platinum mastercard for the car, why wouldn't I want to use it for anything else?
