car fuel costs in Turkey

Can someone tell me how much (US dollars per litre) fuel for a hire car is in Turkey? I believe it is heavily taxed.
Is there much difference in price between petrol (gasoline) and diesel fuel? If there is, might it be worth specifying diesel or gasoline engine model of car?

Hi nickthorp

The price of gasoline is higher then USA BUT you may not find any rent a car using DIESEL FUEL in Turkey yes we have many car using diesel but not for rent. SO I recommend you NOT to THINK.

It's been a couple years, but we found that fuel was cheaper in Turkey than anywhere else we've driven in Europe. (Of course, still infinitely higher than we're used to in the US). Perhaps Sinan will return and tell us what it is running right now.

If you could find a diesel to rent, the extra cost to do so would probably be higher than your savings from buying diesel fuel, unless you were driving a whole lot!

Sinan, it took me a little while to figure out what you meant by that last post. When I said "perhaps Sinan will return" I meant return to this post to answer, not return to Turkey! In fact, I was unaware you aren't in Turkey -- I guess I just assumed that's where you are. Now I'm curious, where are you?
